Meet Christie and BryanWhile conducting research on the web, we came across the blog, http://www.AnInconvenientTumor.com. This is a compelling and detailed account of how a young couple is dealing with a brain tumor, from diagnosis to treatment, and the profound effect it is having on their lives. We contacted Christie and Bryan, and they agreed to share their story on our site. Everything in this section is told from their perspective. Links to their blog, as well as other patient blogs can be found in our Community section.
Meet Christie and Bryan
We're 30-year-old newlyweds living through the emotional whirlwind of a brain tumor diagnosis, treatment, and now, recovery.
In April 2009, three months short of our wedding, we received the surprise of our lives when Bryan was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor located in his brain stem. Dreams of a long and happy life, holding hands into old age seemed out of reach as Bryan was mistakenly given a prognosis of six months to one year to live. We went from the highest highs of an impending marriage to the lowest lows of what seemed to be a life cut short.
We're here to share our story in the hopes that it will help other brain tumor patients and their families, avoid the terror and confusion we experienced prior to finding our dream team of doctors at Cedars-Sinai.
When we first received the news, we didn't know where to go, what to do, who to talk to or what questions to ask. Four months later, our story is still a work in progress, but we want to try and let other patients and caregivers know what to expect* and more important, that you’re not in it alone.
*Disclaimer: All brain tumors are exceptionally unique, as are the patients who experience them. Bryan and Christie's experience cannot be considered indicative of how other brain tumor patients will react throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery of a brain tumor.
